How to minimize the visibility of stitches during breast augmentation?

Minimizing stitches after surgery

The nature of the visibility of scars depends on the skill, the perfected movements of the surgeon’s hand when suturing. Large and rough sutures are obtained when the breast is enlarged by several sizes, due to which there is a strong tightening of the skin to close the incision. It is always possible to minimize the visibility of the sutures if the patient strictly adheres to the postoperative recommendations of the plastic surgeon.

Stitches after breast augmentation: is it possible to reduce them?

Correctly and professionally performed breast surgery with submammary access usually minimizes scars. If mammoplasty is performed with an axillary approach or an incision around the nipple, the traces of surgery are more visible.

However, there are minimally traumatic ways to help reduce the visibility of stitches during breast augmentation. One of them is access through the fold under the breast. In this case, the mammary gland and muscle are not affected.

Aesthetically good solution when the surgeon makes an incision through the areola: the light and dark edges completely hide the scar. In general, each method has pros and cons that need to be considered before access is made.

Suture material used in surgery:

  • absorbable thread;
  • synthetic suture material.

In the case of the first, after six to eight days, it disappears, therefore it does not require removal. It is almost never used for breast augmentation as the tissues need time to recover.

Synthetic threads do not cause allergies and promote the required level of healing, provide the right tissue connection. The decision to remove the stitches is always up to the surgeon.

Methods for reducing sutures after breast augmentation

For women who have had breast augmentation surgery, it is of course important to make the stitches almost invisible. Effective methods help to cope with this, but you can resort to them after the wound has completely healed and after the consultation with the surgeon.

You can start getting rid of scars yourself using a cream. Special products actively work deep into the layers of the skin and help resorb scars. But it is better and more effective to apply them in the early stages.

It is also possible to cope with postoperative stitches using hardware techniques. Laser resurfacing gives good results. It is advisable to undergo the procedure by a course. No less positive results are observed after such manipulations:

  • Mesotherapy – thanks to the introduction of vitamin injections, blood circulation in the operated area is increased, and the scar gradually dissolves. The course usually consists of 10 sessions.
  • Acid peeling – helps to get rid of dead skin layers. It is done at least three times.

In the fight against scars, a surgical method is also used, especially applicable to patients with keloid scars. Such scars are visible to the naked eye and protrude above the surface. Surgical techniques can remove excessive amounts of tissue.

Stitches after breast surgery: how to minimize their visibility

After the operation, the visibility of the scars depends on the patient herself, how she will follow the doctor’s recommendations. After about 2 weeks after the surgery the edges of the wound grow together. In order for the scars to be invisible, it is necessary to adhere to the following recommendations:

  • wearing compression underwear for a month, which is worn immediately after the operation;
  • application of ointments that heal the operated areas, they are prescribed by the doctor;
  • to secure the edges of the incision special plasters are worn for up to six months;
  • use of moisturizing creams at the seams.

The visibility of the scars determines the type of plastic surgery performed. If vertical access is performed, the scar will be around the areola, but over time it becomes barely visible. A similar effect occurs with periareolar mastopexy. To avoid large scars, doctors recommend wearing a silicone bandage.

Of course, scar formation also largely depends on hereditary predisposition. If you have made the decision to undergo breast augmentation surgery, then be prepared for a long recovery. Follow the instructions of your surgeon to achieve the desired result and minimize the visibility of stitches.
