Shin plastics

Beauty depends not only on how chiseled the figure and the graceful oval of the face are. Ideal appearance is a collective term. It includes every part of the body. Indications for cruroplasty

Visually, a cosmetic defect is manifested by an O or X-shaped curvature. If there is no closure in the middle third of the lower leg, we are talking about the so-called “O-shaped” curvature. At the same time, the shape of the legs resembles the letter “O”. If the closure is at the level of the ankle joints, this is an X-shaped curvature. Both in the first and in the second case, we are talking about a “false” curvature. It can be easily eliminated with plastic surgery.

True curvature, in contrast to false, is traced with changes in the structure of bones, in particular, with injuries. In this case, restoration of a full anatomical bone shape is shown using the prescribed orthopedic techniques.

Thus, the indications for cruroplasty are:

• Weak expression of the calf muscles.
• False deformity of the legs.
• Curvature or asymmetry of the lower leg.
• Muscle hypotrophy. This may be the result of an injury, weight loss, or some kind of disease.

Particular features of the shin plastics

For the first time, such operations were carried out exclusively for medical reasons. In most cases, it was about people who were injured. Although the anatomical defects are not repaired, the appearance of the legs is significantly improved.

For cruroplasty, spinal anesthesia or general anesthesia is used. You can also combine spinal anesthesia with intravenous sedation.

Surgical intervention is carried out on the basis of a minimally invasive method. The duration of cruroplasty is 80 minutes. All manipulations are performed through a small incision in the natural popliteal fold. The incision is only a few centimeters long.

During a preliminary consultation, together with the patient, the most optimal form of the implant is determined. In this case, the plastic surgeon takes into account all the anatomical features of the general structure of the lower leg.

For leg cruroplasty, two types of implants can be used: symmetric and asymmetric.

Symmetric

In the middle part it has the maximum thickness, resembling a lens in shape.

Asymmetric (also called anatomical)

This implant has a larger volume in the upper part, its shape is similar to a drop. This variant of the implant resembles the shape of the lower leg as much as possible.

All implants are made of a material that has full biological compatibility with tissues. Thus, there are no allergies and rejection by the body. The special structure of the endoprosthesis surface allows it to be firmly fixed in the tissues. In terms of physical characteristics (for example, in terms of density), prostheses are identical to muscle tissues. This minimizes the likelihood of displacement of the implant. The implants are filled with high-density silicone gel, their shell is also made of silicone. This ensures 100% resistance to any external damage.

Immediately before  the surgery the marking is carried out. Not only the place of the incision is indicated, but also the place where the endoprosthesis will be installed.

During cruroplasty, the patient is placed on the abdomen, the manipulated area is treated with an antiseptic.

Through a small incision the plastic surgeon carefully separates the soft tissue from the muscle fascia. The surgeon then forms an “implant pocket” in the area of ​​the gastrocnemius muscle. This is the space where the prosthesis will be placed during the operation. Depending on the existing defect, as well as the patient’s characteristics, the implant is placed either under the muscle or under the fascia of the gastrocnemius muscle.

At the final stage, the incision is carefully sutured using special cosmetic sutures (they dissolve over time). For 4 weeks, the patient must wear special compression garments.

Rehabilitation period

After the operation the patient stays in the hospital of the clinic of Andrey Kharkov for 24 hours. After that, rehabilitation (the main stage is 12-14 days) continues at home. Special compression garments perfectly tighten the ankles. Thanks to this, they are formed correctly.

Among the general recommendations of the rehabilitation period:

• High-heeled shoes should be avoided.
• Limit physical activity and long walks.
• Banned – swimming in open water, sauna and swimming pool.

Contraindications for lower leg plastics

Cruroplasty is not performed in the presence of the following contraindications:

1. The course of infectious and inflammatory processes in the body.
2. Diseases of the heart and blood vessels.
3. Diabetes mellitus.
4. Kidney problems.
5. Venous insufficiency.
6. Problems with blood clotting.
7. Oncology.
8. The period of pregnancy and lactation.
9. Age (up to 18 years of age the surgery is not performed).
