Exercising after implantation

Many patients after breast augmentation surgery seek sports activities. After all, a lot of women are used to maintaining their shape despite any situations. As with any surgical intervention, the operation to install implants requires a recovery period.

It will take about three months for the muscles to return to normal. Scars heal, puffiness disappears, the breast becomes the desired shape. Therefore, it is important to understand that during this period you will have to adhere to some restrictions, including intense physical activity.

Sports regimen after implantation

It is important to understand that it is forbidden to do active physical exercises immediately. You should do sports gradually. The loads must be increased sequentially, starting with the simplest workouts. As soon as the muscles begin to tone up, dumbbells and other  equipment can be included in the exercises.

Approximate sports regimen after mammoplasty:

• the first 3-4 days – any physical exercise is excluded;

• 2-3 weeks after surgery –  only walking ;

• 5-6 weeks after surgery – not intensive exercises are allowed on the lower body;

• the second or third month of successful rehabilitation – exercises on the upper shoulder girdle, bends and arm swings are allowed.

Active patients who are accustomed to exercising in the gym can start visiting the sports complex no earlier than three months after the operation. In any case, it is necessary to adhere to the doctor’s recommendations.

Dangers of early physical activity:

• the scar can cause discomfort when it comes into contact with tight sportswear;

• there is a possibility of seam divergence;

• the occurrence of breast asymmetry;

• formation of fluid between the implant and the mammary gland;

• the appearance of hematomas and inflammation.

 

After an operation such as mammoplasty, the recovery period on average lasts from three to six months. It is not recommended to engage in serious strength training during this period of time. The first training sessions can be started no earlier than six months after the operation. However, the doctor may allow light jogging after three months, but only after examining the patient and taking into account individual characteristics.

Moderate physical activity during the recovery period after mammoplasty

For most patients, sport is very important, therefore, even during the rehabilitation period, many do not want to deprive themselves of physical activity . Compression underwear must be worn on the body while exercising; after six weeks, you can wear a sports bra.

After strict restrictions, in the second three weeks after the operation you can raise your arms up and develop the shoulder girdle. Movements should be smooth without jerks and sudden movements.

Four weeks after the operation you can visit the pool, but swimming is allowed for short distances. Short sessions with dumbbells up to two kilograms are also allowed.

Three months after the operation you can do the following exercises:

  • stretching the muscles;
  • exercises for the press;
  • raising your arms above your shoulders.

As for the chest presses, types of push-ups, they can be done six months later, after the doctor’s examination and approval. Those who are fond of tennis, mountaineering and other difficult sports can return to these types only six months later, sometimes even later. The physiology of the patient plays an important role in this.

Does the choice of exercise depend on the shape of the implant?

Large size implants are not suitable for professional athletes. Too large breasts will cause discomfort and interfere with full-fledged exercises and training.

Women with round implants can perform wall push-ups 3 weeks after the surgery. By doing this exercise, the breast takes on a natural shape. It is also recommended to squeeze the palms into the lock in front of the chest, while the elbows are spread apart.

If drop-shaped implants are installed, it is worth consulting with your doctor about what sports are suitable. To avoid complications and long-term healing of scars, do not raise your arms up too sharply.

In any case, the beginning of sports activities and any physical exercises must be agreed with the surgeon. If training, especially in the early period after the operation, is accompanied by pain, it is necessary to give them up for a while.
